How we choose and earn
Some links on the site are affiliate links: if you buy through one, the shop may pay us a fee. Here is how we pick what we show you, how those links are marked, and how to switch them off.
Jump to the legal textYour result does the choosing
We start from your own scores. One pick meets you where you are. One or two stretch you a little. Each one says why in a line that uses your score.
- Scored low on Extraversion?
- Quiet meets you.
- Just Listen and Show Your Work stretch you.
- Free first: DEAR MAN Basics, an exercise on this site.
Something free comes first
Where we suggest something paid, we put something free beside it: an exercise on this site, or a library loan for a book. Our tests, exercises and pathways are free.
Every paid link is marked
A paid link carries a Paid link label right beside it. Each set of recommendations has one How we choose and earn link, which brings you here.
Keep it, skip it, or switch it all off
- Save
Keeps a pick on your reading list.
- Not for me
Hides a pick for 7 days.
- Hide all recommendations
When you’re signed in, this link sits under recommendations. It turns off books, courses, apps and our own promo cards.
Who we may earn from
None of these is live on the site yet, so no link here earns us anything today. When one goes live, its links carry the Paid link label.

How counsellor links work
The counsellor links on the site go to free and low-cost public directories run by official bodies, professional associations and non-profits. They are not affiliate links: we earn nothing from them and we don’t log the click. There are no paid counsellor listings on the site.
Nothing paid near a hard moment
Nothing paid shows on crisis pages, in your mood log or journal, or while you take a test. Where a page has crisis help, it sits above anything we suggest.

About our recommendations and affiliate relationships
The Personality Project earns a portion of its operating revenue from affiliate relationships with the retailers and platforms we link to. This section explains what that means, what it does not mean, and how we keep our recommendations honest.
What affiliate links are. When you click a link on the Service to buy a book, enrol in a course, or sign up for a third-party service, the destination retailer may pay us a referral fee (a percentage of your purchase, or a fixed amount for a qualified signup). The price you pay does not change because of the referral. You are not obligated to use these links — you can buy the same items directly from the retailer or anywhere else.
Which programmes we may use. These are the programmes we may use; we earn from a programme only after it accepts us, and until then its links earn us nothing. Books and reading material: Amazon Associates and Bookshop.org. Courses and learning platforms: networks such as Impact and Awin (for example Coursera, Calm or Udemy). Counselling platforms: networks such as CJ Affiliate and Impact (for example BetterHelp or Talkspace). Display advertising, if we use it: Google AdSense, which we would configure for non-personalized (contextual) ads only; we do not allow advertising to be targeted based on your behavior or your assessment results.
Our editorial commitment. Recommendations on the Service are matched to your assessment results and stated interests. We do not accept paid placement, sponsored slots, or pay-for-rank arrangements.
Your personal data is never sold to advertisers. Your psychometric assessment results, mood logs, journal entries, and other personality-derived data are never used for advertising targeting or sold to any third party. We call this the sensitive-inference firewall.
Spotting affiliate links. Every recommendation card that includes an affiliate link displays a short disclosure beneath it (“Paid link: we may earn a commission.”). When you click such a link, a brief interstitial confirms that you are leaving the Service and identifies the affiliate program.
